Purpose
Our Mission
"To instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment."
At Kingwood, that mission is a four-year progression — cadets arrive as followers, learn the standard, and leave as leaders.
Naval Science is a full academic course, not a club. Cadets study naval history, government, leadership, navigation, and health — and earn graduation credit. Classroom work pairs with lab periods: drill, inspections, and physical training.

Citizenship
Cadets study the responsibilities of citizens in a republic — government, national history, and civic duty — and then practice them through service to their school and community.

Service
Time given to Kingwood without expectation of return: colors details, community events, veterans' honors, and support to the school throughout the year.

Personal Responsibility
Standards for uniform, bearing, attendance, and academics that are inspected and graded, so accountability becomes habit rather than reminder.

Earned rank, earned billets, and competitive teams give every cadet measurable goals and visible proof of the work they put in.

Community Service
Cadets give their own time to Kingwood throughout the year — in uniform, on their own schedule, without expectation of return.
Kingwood Pumpkin Patch
Every October cadets volunteer at the Kingwood pumpkin patch — unloading trucks, setting up the field, helping families carry pumpkins, and keeping the grounds squared away. It is one of the unit's largest service turnouts of the fall.
Kingwood Pickle Festival
Cadets support the Kingwood Pickle Festival with setup and teardown, booth assistance, crowd and parking direction, and general support for organizers throughout the day.
Wreaths Across America
Cadets sell remembrance wreaths and then lay them on the graves of fallen service members, rendering honors to each veteran by name.
Tradition & Fundraiser
Wreaths Across America
Wreaths Across America is the unit's main fundraiser and one of its most meaningful traditions. Cadets sell remembrance wreaths that are then laid on the graves of fallen service members, so that each veteran is honored by name.
Ceremony dates are announced each fall by the instructors and posted on the unit calendar.
Learn more- Each cadet is encouraged to sell 15 wreaths during the fall campaign.
- Proceeds support unit activities, drill meet travel, and cadet equipment.
- The wreath-laying ceremony is held in December — families are strongly encouraged to attend and lay wreaths alongside their cadet.
- Cadets wear the uniform of the day for the ceremony and render honors at each grave.
